Descriptions and Definitions

ASP - "Active Server Pages" is a feature of Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0.  ASP allows the development of dynamic webpages.  Each time an ASP-enabled page is downloaded, scripts within the page retrieve up-to-date information, keeping your site looking new each time someone visits your site.

CGI - "Common Gateway Interface" allows programs and scripts to be executed by the webserver, making websites more powerful and dynamic.

Domain Name - The name of your website.  For example, the name of the WPDS website is "printanddigital.com". Internic has central authority over domain names, therefore each domain name must be registered through Internic. Internic's current fee is $70 for a two year term.

E-Commerce - "E-Commerce" sites allow customers to browser their online catalogs and make purchases right over the web. Wattstrainshop.com is a great example of an E-Commerce site setup and maintained by WPDS!

Email Aliasing - Allows you to have multiple email addresses but just one mailbox.  For example, you could have the address johndoe@yourdomain.com and "info@yourdomain.com" both go to the same mailbox.

Email Forwarding - Allows you to keep your current email account but still have an email address for your own website.  When email is sent to the address for your website, it is automatically forwarded to your current email account.

FrontPage Extensions - Allow you to use Microsoft FrontPage 98 to design and administer your website from your own computer. If you can use Microsoft Word, you can design and administer your website with Microsoft FrontPage 98 and FrontPage Extensions installed on your website!

FTP - "File Transfer Protocol" allows you to access and administer your website files remotely using an FTP client.

Monthly Transfer - Size in megabytes of files transferred from your website to visitors browsers per month.

Secure Site Certificate - Allows secured transactions to be preformed on your website.  A must for anyone transferring credit card information, such as E-Commerce sites.

Server Space - The space your website or database occupies on our server hard drives.
